CROCODILE PARK
A jawbone crowned with 63 sharp teeth.
Eyes more famous for their false tears but which also
display total clarity of vision both above and below
water. A sense of smell so highly developed that no
scent within a radius several kilometres could avoid
detection. Viewed from this perspective, no animal could
possibly escape from its jaws.
Clearly, the crocodile is a model predator straight
out of the prehistory itself. In fact, this fearsome
creature so stirred the curiosity of a clockmaker named
Philippe Guevenne that he decided to spend his holidays
travelling from his native France to Africa, where crocodile
farms are commonplace. Eager to set up a farm of his
own, he returned to Europe, but this time, his destination
was Spain, and Málaga to be precise.
This is the only city in Europe that can currently coast
a crocodile park. Inside, it showcases the saurian’s
capacity for devouring food with four.
Daily exhibitions in which hues quantities of reptiles
are draw towards the tourists in their search for live
bait. But relax –security inside the enclosure
is tight! From a close, comfortable position, the visitor
can witness the tremendous pressure exerted by the animal’s
jaws on the wooden pole brandished by the guide, or
the incredible strength of its tail. From “cute”
baby crocodiles no bigger than a lizard to the five
metres long Great Nile, weighing in at 600 kilograms.
The crocodile museum and projection room provide further
information about this prehistoric animal and its repercussions
on the environment.
To offset the impact of these predators, other species
also inhabit the park: goat kids from Cameroon, racoons,
prairie dogs and a variety of ducks and other birds
ensure that monotony will not set in during our tour
of this living recreation of an African habitat.
