MALAGA THINGS TO DO - RACECOURSE

It all happens is a flash. The starter’s gun is fired. The stalls open and the course in shrouded is dust. Real Thoroughbred horse gallop at breakneck speed yet with perfect, movements.

For this is in their nature, like the amazing understanding they share with their jockeys. This is horse racing: a truly magnificent spectacle, and more so in Málaga, where the excellent climatic conditions ensure that we can enjoy this delightful scene all year round. In autumn, winter and spring, races are held during the day, while in summer, the night takes centre stage and racecourse becomes an inevitable meeting point.

However, the daytime also has plenty to offer in summer, since the racecourse is also a huge leisure complex whose facilities go far beyond those associated with the races themselves.

Fans and other equine pursuits can attend riding, show jumping and dressage classes, which are available to adults and children alike in special enclosure. The racecourse also boasts its own gymnasium, athletics track and swimming pools. Not for nothing are its facilities rated the finniest in Spain and among the best in Europe: two sand tracks 1,700 and 1,600 metres long respectively, each 24 metres wide, equipped with sprinklers for maintenance. Its 322 stalls are home to racehorses from Ireland, Sweden and England.

As if all this were not enough, at night the racecourse comes alive with the finest music by some the leading figures in pop: Lenny Kravitz, Elton John and Row Stewart are just a few of those who have performed here. Opera lovers are also well catered for. The best possible soundtrack for a night with a difference.
