The fortress is situated in the historic centre of the city and it is the only one conserved from the muslim era. The medina of Marbella was one of the most important cities of the 'Rayya' (province of Málaga).
The fortified Marbella of the muslims covered approximately a surface of 90.000 m2. On this reduced area a group of back streets were constructed, today the lines can still be seen.

Close to its township, these remains were already known in the XVIII century though it was in 1960 when the archaeologist Carlos Posac Mon and Mister Fernando Alcalá Marín discovered part of the villa, which hasn't been totally explored yet.
The are discovered includes an interior patio surrounded by pillars (peynistylum) and 12 rooms. These rooms give light to the interior rooms of the building.

On this page we propose that you get to know the historical and arquitectural ensemble of the old city. It is practically the same as the original bas in the XVIth century. It is magnificently preserved and it favours an intense commercial life, where you can find the most diverse establishments, in an region of white washed side streets and balconies filled with geraniums.
It is located in the city of San Pedro Alcántara, its construction is visigothic and dates back to the VI century AC. It can be found within a group of churches with two apses, one towards the east and the other to the west, with north African influences. The basilica is surrounded by a necropolis and was discovered during the 1st years of this century whilst planting eucalyptus trees on the beach. The following arqueological excavations brought to high a diversity of materials which are exhibited in museums in Marbella, Málaga and Madrid.
Banus owes its name to its promotor Mr. José Banús. It is situated 6 kilometres from the Marbella city centre. It is one of the main attractions of our city. It is named Centre of National Touristic interest and rewarded with the Gold Mercury International due to work done in favour of the development of economic, cultural and social cooperation. Inaugurated in 1970, two years after the beginning of the construction, it hosts inside its installations 914 berths of 8 to 50 metres long, which have given shelter to some of the most luxurious ships of the world.
Right in the heart of Old City Marbella you will find one of the most beautiful and popular squares, the Santa Maria de la Encarnación, built in 1505. The new parish was built on top of the old city in 1712. Pedro del Castillo and Salvador Gávez were engaged in the construction and in 1756 they sculpted the beautiful main façade.
Since its opening the Museum has been the living centre of reflection and action for the Arts, specially focussing on Spanish Contemporary Art and mainly prints.
Proof of this are the many expositions of great artists like Picasso, Joán Miró, Goya, Eduardo Chillida...

Equestrian school 'Costa del Sol', lies on the banks of the river Padron, not far from 'Sierra Bermeja'. It is located only 800 metres from the beach, within the municipality of Estepona. Its construction reflects the traditional Andalusian style blending in with the socio-cultural environment of the region. Between its numerous activities the Centre offers horse riding, equestrian shows, competitions and preparation of professionals.
