A large boat is not, however, a requirement for those whishing to enjoy the plethora of activities on offer along Málaga’s Mediterranean Coast. A humble board and a few accessories will suffice for us to take advantage of prevailing wind. The kite is a good option and the medium of choice for lovers of kitesurfing, a new sport that has already attracted a large following in the province.
By contrast, the virtues of the windsurfing sail, and indefatigable jumping partner that adds splashes of colour to the immense blue waves of the sea, where discovered along ago. Strong winds breathe life into kites and sails alike on the sands of Guadalmar and Los Alamos, in Torremolinos, and Laguna Beach, in Torrox, while in the city of Málaga itself, El Palo Beach is the pick of the crop.
Surfing, on the other hand, requires no accessories at all, and, waves permitting, the coast is frequently awash with boards pirouetting and drawing figures in the sea, defiant in the face of the force of nature. This fascinating spectacle is best enjoyed on the beaches of Torrecilla and El Playazo, in Nerja, or La Carihuela, Los Alamos and Guadalmar, in Torremolinos.
Of course, we should not miss the opportunity of descending for a few brief moments, or for as long as our oxygen tank will allow, to the depths of the Mediterranean Sea. The diver will encounter the breathtaking marine treasures of an ecosystem invisible to our eyes above the water’s surface but which is just waiting to be discovered on the sea beds of Estepona, Fuengirola, Mijas and Nerja.
But let us take a moment break from such excitement and enjoy the delights of canoeing, a sport which provides a quieter , more relaxing from of physical activity; be it out at sea op upstream with the aid of a paddle, the horizon is our only limit. An excellent setting in which to enjoy this particular pursuit in the Sierra de Grazalema, and in particular Travesia de la Isla, which is also an ideal venue for children. With such a magnificent range of options, you simply cannot go wrong. The Mediterranean has much to offer. Be sure not to waste the opportunity.
