Art and nature are brought together in the latest theme park to be opened in the Costa del Sol. In fact, though it current guise of Senda del Retiro was born in 2005, this 140,000-metre estate was declared a National Historical Monument as long ago as 1984.
XVII and XVIII-century ponds filled with reeds and water lilies. The Cortesano Gardens, whose waterfall is home to over 2,000 orchids from 200 different species. A world of water, with nemo fish, rays, small sharks and balloon and surgeon fish all inhabiting the aquarium, while poison arrow frogs, large bats and iguanas roam in the frog and reptile enclosures.
Walking through a swarm of delightful butterflies, resting beneath ancient cypress trees, or sharing your experiences in a restaurant area styled on a typical Andalusian village… paths filled with life and colour, backed by a soundtrack of undecipherable song provided by a myriad of exotic birds: crested screamers, peacocks, hornbills, dwarf flamingos, cranes…
Not forgetting the giraffes, gnus, kangaroos, zebras, antelopes, and a whole whole host of other animals, 380 in total, from the hustlebustle of daily life in the shape of a stroll along wild, almost baroque path. Sometimes, you have to get lost in order to find yourself.
